"Tree" House - House Prototype

Please join me on my new blog - where this project is included with more already added. Thank you. I hope to see you there.

I've had this idea for awhile and just decided to make a quick house to see how the idea works.

The idea is based on some abandoned houses I've seen where it looks like the woods are taking over the house - trees and vines growing along the lines of the house. I used a tree die to cover the house and then painted it and added some maple leaves from an old Martha Stewart punch. I used Fossilized Amber distress stain to make the yellow and sprayed some Rusty Hinge and Barn Door and walnut stain on top to age the paper for the leaves.

I glued the trees on and then painted them. It looks kind of messy to me. I don't think there is enough contrast between the trees and the house itself. The maple leaves are a little large as well. But this is a prototype - just playing around so it's a perfect way to experiment. There is also an online challenge that works with this house - Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge which is "Touchy Feely". I think there is certainly a tactile component to the house, especially seen on the side view where you can see the leafy shingles on the roof.

I will probably try to make one more house like this, but using paper mache for the tree rather than the Tim Holtz Branch Tree die. I love this die, but I think a paper mache tree will have more dimension and may be easier to paint. Also I will try some smaller leaves. I have a punch of leaf punches including a number of oak leaf punches that I think will work better.

Another reason I haven't been around very much is that I actually was asked to be a guest designer for an upcoming post on A Vintage Journey - a very big honor. I've made one project but I may make 2 others just to see which one works the best. At first I was really scared because I was afraid I wouldn't be able to come up with an idea, but I immediately had 3 ideas that I was excited about.

  1. What a cool idea, Lucy, and your house definitely fits your vision of the abandoned building, I think! Those bright fall leaves look wonderful! Thanks for sharing your wonderful project with us at Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge! hugs, Maura

  2. I think you kinda rock the 'house' series Lucy and this is no exception!
Big Congrats for being chosen by Vintage Journey...well deserved!

  3. Hi Lucy! I saw this earlier but didn't have time to comment then. I love your idea for a house taken over by the woods. This house is great with the tree and leaves - I do want to touch that roof! lol Nice work. Would love to see the next version . . .

  4. I love the effect of all the fall leaves!
